ABOUT THE CLIENT/ client back story

I first met Matt and Alaina during a run of a play I costume designed for Barebones Productions. They were opening a restaurant in the same building as the theatre and were invited to a dress rehearsal. This play was staged in a very intimate setting and we were seated on the floor a foot away from the actors. The story took us on an emotional ride and we were all in tears by the end. When Matt and Alaina were beginning to plan their outfits for their wedding week almost a year later, Alaina remembered the experience we all shared, as well as my costume design, and reached out to book a Discovery Call.

Matt and Alaina were planning six events for their wedding week, as many of their friends and family were traveling into Pittsburgh for the celebration and they wanted to make it a fun and memorable experience for everyone. They shared a detailed vision board with me and emphasized that curating these looks was in their top three priorities for the week.

STYLE PRIORITIES

• Color, Pattern, Texture, Embroidery

• Connecting their looks with their individual histories and heritages. For Matt that meant highlighting his Japanese heritage at the post ceremony party by entering in a Noragi or Happi Jacket and for the Block Party he wanted to celebrate growing up in Hawaii. For Alaina that meant giving a nod to her family's industrial Pittsburgh roots, so we blended color and pattern with utilitarian coveralls.

• They both wanted to lean into linen and embroidery for the Sunday picnic.

• Alaina wanted an elevated flowy set for the late night after party.

• Comfortable footwear!

Our focus

To build a collection for each of them that not only hit the mark for their wedding week parties and themes, but would also double as outfits for their honeymoon, public appearances, and business events around town all summer.

Final looks

These are a few examples of options we had ready for them in the studio the day of their fittings. They were both thrilled with their final collections. While on their honeymoon, I received this text from Alaina.

"The experience of styling with you has changed us. You opened up a world of what to look for when shopping and a way of doing it together and we are having a ball."
